On December 20, 2024, the Theater Club in Prishtina presented the forum theater play “Alone” at the premises of SHFMU “Xhemail Mustafa.”
“Alone” conveyed strong messages against societal prejudice toward women, highlighting gender discrimination and the challenges women face in our society.
At the heart of the story was the journey of a woman who, in search of a better future for her family, makes the bold decision to move to Germany, leaving her husband to care for their children. The play shed light on gender stigmatization and the double standards of patriarchy, sparking a dynamic debate with the audience.
Arrita Cikaqi, a participant in the Theater Club of Prishtina, shared her excitement about the creative process of the play.
“I learned a lot about acting, things I wasn’t familiar with before, which I hope will help me in life to pursue my dreams,” said Cikaqi. Reflecting on the play’s message, she emphasized that society should not harbor such prejudices against women.
“A tradition we have is that only men go abroad to work, and the message here was that women can do it too, without unnecessary judgment. These prejudices make me feel terrible—they’re harsh and unnecessary. I believe this play can help the audience understand the message and inspire some change,” she expressed.
Stina Sheremeti, another participant, also spoke highly of her experience with the Theater Club:
“I’ve learned so much from the Theater Club, but above all, I’ve learned how to respect one another. It’s boosted my creativity and provided me with knowledge I didn’t have before. Moreover, I’ve overcome my fear of speaking in front of an audience,” said Sheremeti.
Ari Gosalci, another member of the Theater Club, expressed pride in the team’s effort to stage such a sensitive topic:
“I want to thank Artpolis for their collaboration. I’m very happy we reached this point of presenting the play after completing training sessions and learning various things, like discipline and how to approach theatrical performances. Although the topic was heavy, we gave our best. It was an enjoyable training process where we spent time with new friends and learned how to work together,” said Gosalci.
He also stressed the importance of addressing such issues to combat prejudice against women:
“This theme reflects real-life situations, where women are often not allowed to go abroad to work because they are expected to stay home and handle domestic responsibilities. These ideas are not true, and society needs to change. Through this play, we aimed to send a message: it shouldn’t just be men working or traveling abroad—women can do these things too, and they shouldn’t be judged for it,” he stated.
The play “Alone” was performed by Ameli Kabashi, Arba Ahmetaj, Ari Gosalci, Arrita Cikaqi, Erda Gashi, Hana Rexha, Kea Morina, Lum Morina, Mali Buza, Morea Kastrati, Rajana Osmani, and Stina Sheremeti.
The young participants of the Theater Club in Prishtina were mentored by Qendresa Kajtazi and Labinot Raci.
This activity was organized by Artpolis with the support of Frieda, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, the Municipality of Prishtina, and SHFMU “Xhemail Mustafa” in Prishtina.
