On March 4, 2026, at the Natural Sciences Gymnasium “Xhavit Ahmeti,” the performance “Behind the Screen,” directed by Zana Hoxha, brought a powerful forum-theatre experience to young audiences. The play featured actors Ismail Kasumi, Qendresa Kajtazi, Anisa Ismaili, Edlir Gashi, and Albana Gashi, who engaged students in an emotionally charged and thought-provoking performance.

On stage, the play explored complex romantic relationships shaped by manipulation, control, digital pressure, and the growing influence of the manosphere in everyday life. Through its characters, the performance highlighted how the use of technology can often transform into tools of surveillance and domination—frequently justified in the name of “care” or “love,” yet creating silent restrictions and psychological pressure.

Following the performance, students actively participated in discussion and reflection, raising critical questions about the reality

of online violence:

– Why is dominance over a partner seen as important by some people?

– How does someone feel when they experience control and manipulation?

– When a partner’s freedom is restricted, is it still a relationship—or a prison?

– Can love exist without trust and control?

Student Suhejla Bunjaku shared her reflection:“Love without trust becomes control, and control is not protection—it is fear disguised as care. When someone tries to control you in the name of love, it says more about their insecurity than about their love.”

Another student, Bora Devaja, stated:“Violence by a man against a woman is wrong and unacceptable. Respect does not mean imposing power; it means listening and respecting the other person. If you are in a relationship where your partner thinks they are always right, leave for the sake of a free life.”

As emphasized during the discussion: “Control and care are not the same; violence is not love—it is a crime.”

Performances like “Behind the Screen” serve as an invitation for dialogue, reflection, and awareness about the dangers of online violence.

The performance was organized by Artpolis, with the support of Kosova Women’s Network and East West Management Institute.
