On March 25, 2026, young participants visited Gjakova to explore its rich cultural heritage, including spiritual, ethnological, and culinary aspects.
The visit began at the Great Tekke, where Kati Zhubi welcomed the group and introduced them to the calm, contemplative spirit of Sufi tradition. They then experienced a local culinary specialty—freshly baked bread with sausage—while observing its preparation up close with Zekë Temaj.
Strolling through the Old Bazaar, they visited the workshop of artisan Fehmi Vejsa, a master saddle-maker, as well as cradle-maker Ruzhi Qarri, gaining insight into traditional craftsmanship that continues to shape the city’s cultural identity. Their journey continued to Frashër and Viloeta Osa, who presented intricately embroidered traditional garments, reflecting generations of heritage and care. The experience culminated at the Hadum Mosque, an elegant 16th-century monument and one of the city’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks.
Participants described the experience as both meaningful and inspiring—a valuable opportunity to learn about and promote Gjakova’s cultural heritage, a city that embraces visitors with warmth and a deep passion for craft, life, and art.
“It was truly worth it, and I think young people should come and experience something like this,” said Zara Ersuzi.
Andi Haziri shared, “I really enjoyed the visits, especially the traditional bread and the Tekke, where I learned many new things.”
For Andi Maloku, it was a unique experience in Gjakova, “…a beautiful day that I will remember for a long time.”
Meanwhile Albulena Arifi reflected, “I had a wonderful time today… if I had the chance, I would gladly do it again.”
A short day, yet filled with flavors, stories, and human warmth. Gjakova revealed that heritage is not only about the past—it is alive, to be experienced and shared every day.
This activity was organized within the framework of the project “Heritage Horizons: A Journey Across Generations” by Artpolis, as part of the BOOST Balkans program, funded by AFD – Agence Française de Développement and coordinated by ALDA Balkans.
