Today, on 07.12.2023, we proclaimed “Stop Femicide” during the “Enough is Enough” march and the artistic performance “Hope Bubble,” demanding justice for Liridona Ademaj and all the women who have been killed.
“Today, we have gathered here to say ‘stop’ to femicide, to halt the killing and oppression of women. Today, we demand justice for Liridona and for all the murdered women. We call for the maximum punishment for the criminals, in accordance with the law,” stated Nertila Qarri-Gërguri, project manager at Artpolis, in the media release.
She emphasized that femicide is a national emergency. Therefore, it is crucial to put an end to femicide now. “This is the final moment to seek justice and achieve gender equality. It’s the last opportunity to dismantle patriarchy and, with it, oppression.”
Femicide, misogyny, and toxic masculinity continue to terrorize us daily. Women’s lives are violated every day—at home, on the street, at work, in public and private spaces.
Through her performance ‘Hope Bubble,’ Donikë Ahmeti portrayed the daily life of women—the multiple and systematic oppression of patriarchy, which claims the lives of women every day.
Altina Binaku, Lavdije Idrizi, Meri Gojani, and Albione Sahiti brought this performance to life, supported by 30 young men and women who were part of it.
Donikë Ahmeti emphasized that women are being killed every day due to the influence of the patriarchal system.
“Women are killed every single day by the patriarchy. Every day, they struggle, juggle responsibilities, and tend to their health. They endure self-denial and sacrifice for their families. When women become mothers, they often must relinquish their own pursuits to prioritize family life—a step toward their own demise. It’s crucial to rise against these tragic components daily to prevent this tragedy from recurring,” she emphasized.
