Celebrating World Book Day

April 23rd is a symbolic day for world literature, as it marks the birth and death of great global authors such as Cervantes, K. Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla, and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. This date, chosen by the UNESCO General Conference in 1995, is dedicated to authors and books from around the world, encouraging everyone, especially young people, to discover the joy of reading and to gain a renewed respect for the invaluable contributions of those who have greatly influenced the social and cultural development of humanity

On April 25th, the Artpolis Center for the Development of Arts, supported by the European Union Office in Kosovo and project partners, organized a range of activities throughout the day at Nënë Tereza Square, aiming to achieve this goal in Kosovo.

To celebrate World Book Day, the following events were organized:

– Book Corner: In collaboration with the capital city’s bookstores and publishing houses, offering hundreds of books at discounted prices and free registration at the “Hivzi Sylejmani” library.

– Children’s Poets Corner: Where children had the opportunity to meet and listen to poets for children, Ibrahim Kadriu and Jerina Rrahmani.

-Book Creation Workshop: Children, with the help of artists, created books with poetry, stories, and illustrations.

– Award Presentation: Recognition and awards for the five best readers at the “Hivzi Sylejmani” library.

– Poetry Performances Readings by local and foreign authors, accompanied by Kosovar musicians.

– 11:00 – 16:00 Mini Book Fair featuring Pristina bookstores and publishing houses (Dukagjini, Dit’e Natë, Buzuku, KOHA, Titanik, Qendra Multimedia, Hutini Books)

– 11:00 – 16:0 Free registration for readers at the City Library “Hivzi Sylejmani.”

– 13:00 – 16:00 Children’s Poets Corner – Poetry readings for children by authors Ibrahim Kadriu and Jerina Rrahmani

-15:00 – 15:30 Award presentation for the top 5 readers at the Hivzi Sylejmani Library

– 13:00 – 16:00 Book creation with poetry and illustrations by children and applied arts artists

-13:00 – 16:00 Poetry performances by local and foreign authors, featuring actors and professional musicians (Bislim Muçaj, Shengyl Ismajli, Haki Kika, Fitore Broqi)
