Following the performances held in April at the Gjilan City Theatre, the play “Cabaret 1999,” directed by Zana Hoxha, continued its artistic journey in May, with another presentation taking place on 25 May 2026.
The performance continued to attract audience interest, presenting a powerful and emotional narrative about the reality of post-war Kosovo and the challenges of a society striving to rebuild itself after the traumas of war.

Based on Joe Masteroff’s “Cabaret,” “Cabaret 1999” relocates the story from 1930s Berlin to Prishtina in 1999 — a city newly emerged from war, marked by absence, memories, and efforts to rebuild life. Through its characters and events, the play explores important themes such as collective memory, loss, freedom, and resistance, creating a sensitive dialogue between the past and the present.

As a co-production of Artpolis and the Gjilan City Theatre, “Cabaret 1999” continues to demonstrate the power of theatre as a space for reflection and social dialogue, offering an experience that not only entertains but also encourages critical thinking and reflection among audiences. The 25 May performance served as a continuation of this artistic engagement, bringing back to the stage a story that remains relevant and meaningful for the public.
