“Culture without borders” opens doors for young artists

Why to apply:

Intercultural exchange: The program provides a unique opportunity to meet and collaborate with young artists from other cultures, which can result in inspiring artistic projects.

Creative Colony: The five-day workshop provides the conditions and means to create works of art that artists will promote.

Exhibitions and performances: Your works will be exhibited or performed in several cities, providing an opportunity for wide visibility and contributing to cultural diversity.

Expenses covered: The organizers cover travel expenses, accommodation, meals and museum entrance fees, making this program affordable and supporting young artists.

Connecting with cultural actors: The network of contacts you will create in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Pristina and Prizren can open doors for future professional opportunities.

Encouraging diversity: The program encourages artistswith disabilitiesand those from smaller cities, rural areas, marginalized and/or deprived communities, in starting a new cultural story.

The “Culture without borders” program is intended for young artists in various sectors who are interested in actively engaging in joint artistic projects and establishing and developing cultural ties. Working languages are Serbian, Albanian and English.

The “Culture without borders” program consists of three related actions:

(1) Intercultural exchange is a ten-day educational study trip for 16 young artists that will take place from March 22 to April 1 2024 – (Belgrade, Novi Sad, Pristina, Prizren). Participants will attend lectures by relevant experts, participate in inspiring conversations with established artists, visit cultural institutions and connect with cultural workers. During the study visit you will work with the mentor on the conception of artworks that you will realize in the next step – during the Creative Colony.

(2) Creative Colony – A five-day workshop where artists will be able to focus on creating works of art with provided funds and the help of mentors. The budget is limited and will be worked out during the workshop.

(3) Local exhibitions of works of art (joint exhibition of realized works in Belgrade, Pristina and one another city).

The organizers cover the costs of participation, including:

  • Travel expenses
  • Accommodation
  • Food and refreshments
  • Visits to cultural institutions

The conditions of participation in the program include:

  • 18-35 years of age
  • The status of an unestablished or insufficiently established artist
  • Knowledge of at least two working languages of the program, including mother tongue
  • Interest in active participation in establishing and developing cultural ties between the two communities and joint artistic projects

We encourage all young and unestablished or insufficiently established artists who meet the above criteria to apply for participation.

The ”Culture without borders” program for young artists was designed by The Helsinki Committee for the Human Rights in Serbia (HO), and since 2023 it has been implemented in cooperation with the ArtPolis organizations from Pristina, and with the financial support of the European Union.
