The premiere of the forum theatre performance “Do You Hear Me,” held on December 10 at the City Theater in Gjilan, it was a call to reflection. In front of 65 people in the audience, the characters became a mirror of the dilemmas and uncertainties young people face when social support disappears amidst the chaos of change.
At the heart of the story is Jara, a young girl confronted with choices that could alter the course of her life. Through silence, neglect, and abandonment, the performance reveals how insecurity can erode self-confidence, with consequences that ripple far beyond the individual.
The students from Gjimnazi “Xhavit Ahmeti” and Shkolla e Mesme e Artit “Adem Kastrati”—Muharrem Ramadani, Eris Selimi, Isra Sahiti, Anisa Koprani, Donesa Musliu, Ajsin Sahiti, Lina Bislimi, Atika Salihu, Kanita Mehmeti, Delfina Halimi, Altesa Byqmeti, Blinera Miftari, and Rrezarta Rrahmani—took the audience on an emotional journey, connecting them directly to the narrative. The interactive discussion between actors and spectators added another layer, transforming the performance into an open dialogue about social responsibility and care for youth.
Guidance from actors Kushtrim Qerimi and Fitore Jashari made this experience even more meaningful, creating a safe and nurturing space for the talented young members of the Gjilan Theatre Club. As Muharrem Ramadani reflected, it was “a life adventure” and “a joy” that fostered strong bonds among participants.
“Do You Hear Me” stands as a testament to the power of theatre to awaken consciousness, spark conversation, and connect society with the emotions and challenges of its youth.
This project was organized by Artpolis, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gjilan, “Xhavit Ahmeti,” Gymnasium and High School of Art “Adem Kastrati,” with support from FRIEDA and the Ministry of Culture.
